Quantitative analysis of bulk water for Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts currently involves four steps; concentration
of bulk water particulates, purification of oocysts from background detrital material (using floatation,
immunomagnetic separation or flow cytometry), immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) staining of the purified material,
and epifluorescence microscopy.
