Effects of Dexamethasone Combined with Hyperbaric Oxygen on Levels of Inflammatory Cytokines, S100-β, NSE and Aβ in Patients with Delayed Encephalopathy after Acute Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Abstract

To analyze the effects of dexamethasone combined with hyperbaric oxygen on the levels of inflammatory
cytokines, S100-β, NSE and Aβ in patients with delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide poisoning
(DEACMP). 200 patients with DEACMP admitted to our hospital from August 2014 to April 2019 were
collected for comparative treatment, and they were divided into a treatment group (100 cases) and a control
group (100 patients) according to the random number method. Patients in the control group were treated with
hyperbaric oxygen, and patients in the treatment group were treated with dexamethasone combined with
hyperbaric oxygen. The comparative analysis on clinical efficacy and difference in levels of inflammatory
cytokines [interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL- 10), Interferon gamma (IFN-γ)], S100-β protein (S100-β),
neuron specific enolase (SE) and amyloid β-protein (Aβ), nerve growth factor (NGF), nerve growth factor
receptor (NGFR), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BNDF) and neurotrophic factor (NT3) of the patients of
both groups after treatment was conducted. The total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly
higher than that of the control group, and difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the
levels of IL-6, IL-10 and IFN-γ in patients of the treatment group and the control group were lower than those
before the treatment, and the above indicators were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control
group, of which the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of S100-β,
NSE and Aβ in patients of the treatment group and the control group were lower than those before treatment,
and the above indicators were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group, of which the
differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of attention and calculation,
language ability, orientation and visual spatial perception in patients of the treatment group and the control
group were higher than those before treatment, and the above indicators were significantly higher in the
treatment group than in the control group, of which the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After
the treatment, the levels of NGF, NGFR, BNDF and NT3 in the treatment group and the control group were
higher than those before the treatment, and the above indicators were significantly higher in the treatment group
than in the control group, of which the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). In summary,
dexamethasone combined with hyperbaric oxygen in treatment of patients with DEACMP can improve the
symptoms and cognitive function of patients, reduce neurological damage, inhibit inflammatory reactions and
improve the quality of life of patients, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
